Step 3: Practicum

Praying for an Outpouring of the Holy Spirit [As it appears in Holy Spirit 101, page 42]

INSTRUCTIONS: It is best to have a trained team of intercessors available to pray with students; however, simple prayers from students will also suffice. If the individual does not want to approach a prayer team, he or she can complete the exercise individually.

Step 1

Allow students to spend five minutes preparing themselves individually for the prayer session. Some questions may help students prepare:

  •  Do I believe in the Holy Spirit?

  • Do I believe that I received the Holy Spirit at my baptism and was sealed with the Holy Spirit at my confirmation?

  • Do I believe that the Holy Spirit can move through the people of his Church?

  • To what charisms or gifts of the Holy Spirit am I most attracted?

Step 2

Allow students, one by one, to come to the front of the room and receive prayer. Have the prayer team petition God, in a calm and orderly way, for a greater outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the student’s life. Have the student verbally petition God as well.

Step 3

When a student completes his or her time in a prayer session, that individual may pray silently, journal, or join a prayer team in praying for another student.

Step 4

Come together as a group for sharing and discussion.
